Drugs seized in West Footscray as part of cross-border investigation

Major Drug Squad detectives have charged a man after a commercial quantity of drugs was seized from a property in West Footscray on Thursday,October 4.

With the assistance of WA Police, officers executed a warrant on a residential address in Barkley Street on Friday, October 6.

Detectives seized approximately 2kg methylamphetamine and 1kg cocaine from the address, along with a range of drug paraphernalia and electronic devices.

A 31-year-old West Footscray man was arrested and subsequently charged with traffick a large commercial quantity of methylamphetamine and traffick a large commercial quantity of cocaine.

The man was remanded in custody until 9 January.

The arrest formed part of an investigation into an Asian organised crime syndicate allegedly trafficking a range of drugs in Western Australia and Victoria.

The Victoria Police investigation commenced in in July following information provided to Major Drug Squad detectives by WA Police about the syndicate.

The investigation remains ongoing.

Detective acting inspector Damien O’Mahoney said, “Those involved in the trafficking of illicit drugs have very little respect for state borders, so it’s important that Victoria Police works closely with our counterparts interstate to disrupt this criminal activity”.

“(This) arrest will have an impact not only here in Victoria but also in WA and by seizing those drugs they won’t be able to cause further harm to our community.”
