Electric bike impounded

Williamstown Police allegedly impounded an electric bicycle on Friday, September 23.

Williamstown Police put an end to a 15 year-old boy’s joyride on an electric bicycle last week.

An Eyewatch Hobsons Bay Police Service area spokesperson said Williamstown Police members apprehended a 15 year-old boy from Williamstown North at about 8.50pm on Friday, September 23.

“Williamstown Police were proactively patrolling for motorised bicycles and antisocial behaviour when they intercepted this electric powered bicycle in Florence Street, Williamstown North,“ the spokesperson said.

“The bike was found to have a power output of over 1000 watts classifying it as at a motorcycle.

“The bike was impounded for 30 days at a cost of $1305.“

The youth would face court on a number of charges including being unlicensed, riding without a helmet and using an unregistered motor vehicle and using a vehicle which does not comply with the standards of registration.
