This is such a great time of year to celebrate and enjoy what we have around us.
The Christmas rush is a distant memory, and while we’re still easing our way back into work and school, and planning for the year ahead, it’s the best time to enjoy the summer period in a more relaxed way.
Long warm summer nights and sunny weekends are perfect for getting out and making most of the parks and trails all over Hobsons Bay.
We have so many beautiful spots all over the city.
My favourite place to head out for a walk is Jawbone Reserve in Williamstown.
I just love getting out there, right on the bay, with all its incredible wildlife and plants.
Of course, summer is also the time when we have some fantastic events happening.
The Caravan Sounds events have been a great hit this summer.
What better way to spend an evening than relaxing and listening to some music with family and friends at your local park.
There are only two more sessions left – at Commonwealth Reserve in Williamstown this Friday (January 27, 5pm-8pm) and Weaver Reserve in Altona on Sunday (January 29, 12pm-4pm).
So, make the most of them.
Midsumma Westside kicked off on Saturday and our local program as part of Australia’s premier queer arts and cultural festival is excellent.
We have such a proud history in Hobsons Bay of supporting our LGBTQIA+ community, and the events, exhibitions and workshops that are on over the next couple of weeks are a great celebration of that.
So much of who we are as individuals and as a community is told through art.
It’s always fascinating to see and experience the stories that get told each year through some of the most creative people in our community.
The Pier Festival, which is on this Saturday from 5pm to 10pm at Seaworks, is always a highlight.
It’s a great space and includes local music and DJs, burlesque shows, an interactive queer art mural, entertainment, queer market stalls, food trucks, queer films and more, so get along if you have the chance.
