The tenders are now open for an extension of the Bay Trail and repairs of the seawall at Point Gellibrand Coastal Heritage Park to allow walkers, cyclists and runners to get from Williamstown to the Point Cook Coastal Park using uninterrupted trails.
As part of the state government’s $21 million Urban Parks Active Wellbeing program, repair works to the Point Gellibrand seawall will ensure the promenade is safe for years to come, with Heritage Victoria guiding geotechnical and structural investigations.
The Bay Trail extension will include an elevated boardwalk-style path to protect the wetlands and minimise road crossings to ensure users can enjoy safe and easy access along the trail.
Williamstown MP Melissa Horne said the repairs are expected to commence in spring.
“These important repairs to the Point Gellibrand seawall will protect the wall and make the promenade safe for our community to enjoy for years to come,” she said.
Altona MP Jill Hennessy said the work will also involve environmental controls being implemented to ensure the Cheetham Wetlands are protected during and after construction.
“Creating a link between Williamstown and Point Cook Coastal Park will enable our western Melbourne community safe, easy and convenient access to enjoy this stunning coastline and park,” she said.
