The Country Women’s Association of Altona is connecting the community stitch by stitch.

Treasurer Star Conliffe said the association had sent out punch needle embroidery kits so people could practice the craft together online.

“We’ve got six women who’ll be joining me – we’re going to have a Zoom class,” she said.

“It’s just a way to learn a new craft and connect with each other and just feel a bit less lonely during lockdown.”

Ms Conliffe said there were misconceptions about the association.

“I think a lot of people misunderstand Country Women’s Association,” she said.

“They probably don’t realise that most of us in Altona, we’re a small branch – we’re quite young,” she said.

“All of us work full-time so we’re an evening branch – we meet in the evening.

“We do a little bit of craft but we really focus on connection and friendship.”
