Festive season in full swing across Maribyrnong

The festive season is in full swing with events for all ages being celebrated across Maribyrnong.

One of the highlights, Yarraville carols in the garden, returns for its 23rd year, from 7pm Saturday, December 17.

The evening will showcase performances by internationally-acclaimed opera singers, the Footscray-Yarraville city band, a mass choir and community performers, a special visit by Santa and the much-loved fireworks display.

Maribyrnong mayor Catherine Cumming said this is the time for the city to celebrate.

“Council’s festive season program is all about bringing our community together and offering some fantastic free events for the whole family to enjoy.”

The first of four twilight movies screened under the stars will be held this Friday night, with The Grinch from 8.30pm at Johnson Reserve, Maidstone. Meanwhile, Braybrook Community Hub will host a tasty festive lunch each Wednesday until December 21.

Enjoy treats and great company at Maribyrnong Community Centre’s annual Christmas morning tea on December 8, or join Maidstone’s picnic in the park with a barbecue and children’s entertainment on December 16.

Santa will also drop into Maribyrnong aquatic centre on December 18.

Libraries and Yarraville community centre will host craft sessions and special events throughout December.
