Fireworks forecasted in Footscray

Maribyrnong council hopes locals will head down to Footscray Park on Sunday, December 31, to bring in the new year.

Proceedings will begin at 9:30pm when the family friendly fireworks go off , offering families and visitors a chance to revel in the festivities without the late-night city crowds.

A traditional Welcome to Country ceremony will take place next, followed by Cool Out Sun.

Next up, The Merindas will entertain with disco-pop tunes, followed by popular Australian band, Regurgitator.

Council said there will also be roving acts Sway and Indirect Objects, carnival rides, and games to keep the whole family entertained until the grand fireworks display.

Afterwards, Yacht Rock Revival is said to bring the crowd back in time with their rock hits of the late ’70s and early ’80s.

Guiding the night will be MC Lizzy Hoo, a celebrated Australian comedian renowned for her unique humour and vibrant performances.

Families will have the option to pack a picnic and bring their own food or have the option to choose from an array of food trucks.

Council also encourages visitors to bring refillable bottles and reusable containers as this is a’ single-use plastic free’ event.

Mayor Cuc Lam said, “We’re thrilled to host what I’m sure will be another memorable New Year’s Eve event at Footscray Park,” she said.

“A place that holds a special place in our community’s heart.”
