Footscray locals will have a new chance to connect with the community at a free event being run by the Footscray Traders.

Footscray Traders president Julia Ponte said this event will be the first annual Footscray community day, to be held at Footscray Park Bowling Club on Sunday, September 10.

“The day is going to be a great chance for everyone to meet and mingle and touch base and converse with each other,” she said.

“We as traders meet once a month to discuss concerns and other matters regarding the community.

“So we thought it would be nice to put the grant we got to good use, and give the community a chance to engage with each other and celebrate the Footscray community.”

Julia said they are expecting more than 100 people on the day to enjoy face painting for kids, pies from Pie Thief as well as various drinks to enjoy.

The event was put together with the help of the bowls club, which Julia said had been a great help.

“Usually these kinds of events are planned months in advance , but with the help of the bowls club we were able to put it together so quickly,” she said.

“The bowls club has a bit of a long standing historical importance to Footscray , so that’s why we wanted to host this event somewhere noteworthy.”

The community is encouraged to provide feedback after the event, Julia said this will help perfect it for years to come.

“We can’t wait for people to come along and put their feedback in so we can cater the event for everyone.”
