Flavour trip coming to Footscray

Footscray’s Railway Reserve will be transforming into a foodie’s nirvana as part of the return of the Footscray Night Market event series.

The program will kick off on Friday, December 2 with a curry and spice focus, showcasing rich spice seasonings, a special program of Bollywood and Sri Lankan performances, live music from Faisal Amlani and empanadas from Masterchef 2021 finalist Kishwar Chowdhury.

Herb and chilli will be the flavours on show on Friday, December 2, alongisde entertainment from traditional Chinese lion dancers, an African drum and dance ensemble and Mauritian band Sonik Waves.

Flames will be blazing on Friday, December 16 for the barbecue and grill night, alongside live music, drumming and a performance from drum and dance ensemble Once Spirit Africa.

Maribyrnong mayor Sarah Carter said the event series would present visitors with cuisines from around the world.

“A staple in our summer calendar, Footscray Night Market is a foodie lover’s dream,” she said.

“The accompanying live entertainment and music showcases the wonderful melting pot of cultures here in the west.

“There is something for everyone, so head down Railway Reserve to kick off your summer with us.”

The event will also include roving performers, free face painty and an inflatable bouncing castle for young visitors.
