Friends and family joined Williamstown stalwart Hylda Kennedy to celebrate a magic milestone late last year.
Born in the Williamstown home of her parents, Arthur William Kennedy and Francis Edwards, in October 1916, Hylda Mary Catherine Kennedy celebrated her 100th birthday with a special lunch.
The adventurous centenarian also marked the milestone by booking a joy flight with Melbourne Seaplanes, inviting good friend Ella Bambery, a sprightly 99-year-old she befriended in their school days.
Hylda attended Miss Cathcart’s school in Osborne Street, then Williamstown state school and Williamstown high school.
At age 15, she made a splash by winning Miss Williamstown Beach Girl and the school diving championship in the same year.
From there, it was on to Stott’s Colleges to study business, where she excelled, moving on to a long career of secretarial work, before retiring at age 73 to care for her oldest son, who was suffering from MS. Hylda still resides in the Williamstown family home she purchased before she was married.
