The Victoria Racing Club has joined forces with a number of other organisations and companies to raise more than $500,000 for flood victims across Victoria and New South Wales.

Reaching $503,074 through not-for-profit donation platform GIVIT, donations included a $500,000 contribution from the Victoria Racing Club, as well as donations from Lexus Australia, Network 10, Tabcorp, Furphy, the Melbourne Racing Club Foundation, Ascot Racecourse in the UK, the Victorian Jockeys Association, UNIbet, MSS Security and the Highland Foundation.

GIVIT chief executive Sarah Tennant said the funds contributed to providing critical support to individuals and families across Victoria and New South Wales, including providing supplies such as groceries, fuel and clothing vouchers to an Echuca family with a intellectually disabled child and providing a new car seat to a young family from Kialla who had recently arrived in Australia on protection visas and were severely impacted by floods.

“These donations may seem simple but their impact on communities who have experienced a traumatic event can’t be underestimated,” she said.

VRC chief executive Steve Rosich said the club’s donation would help those affected rebuild following last year’s extreme event.

“The Melbourne Cup Carnival provided a platform for everyone to come together and support Australian communities doing it tough,” he said.
