Footscray crew set to support rap legend

Footscray-based G-funk hip hop crew Sneakerheads will be supporting West Coast G-Funk pioneer DJ Quik.

DJ Quik will be headlining the show at Laundry Bar in Fitzroy on Friday, December 9 from 8pm to 11.30pm.

Sneakerheads member Al-flex said learning they will be a support act for DJ Quik was a “great moment”.

“I actually couldn’t believe it myself,” he said.

“I’d say that his impact was signficant on the West Coast scene.”

Performing as an outfit since 2018, Sneakerheads also consists of Vision, Mellow Sea and DJ Daily.

“We’ve had a really close freindship for much longer,” Al-flex said.

Al-flex said the group’s sound was unique via its use of the talk box.

“We’re really interested in exploring that sound,” he said.

“It just really hypnotises the crowd.”

Al-flex said he and the other crew members are looking forward to showing off hip hop talents in the western suburbs of Melbounre.

“We love representing the west,” he said.

DJ Quik has collaborated with Snoop Dogg, Kurupt, 2pac and Chingy.
