Footscray cycling path closed

The walking and cycling path will be closed continuously from Friday, April 28, 5am to Thursday, May 11, 9pm.

The West Gate Tunnel project has released updates on Footscray Road walking and cycling path closure dates.

The section between Dock Link Road and Appleton Dock Road will be closed continuously from Friday, April 28, 5am to Thursday, May 11, 9pm, detours and signs will be in place.

The updates warn cyclists and pedestrians who frequent the Footscray Road walking and cycling path to plan their alternate routes.

Outbound lane closure is required to construct the new elevated motorway directly above Footscray Road, which will create safer and faster travel between the tunnels and CityLink, Dynon Road, Footscray Road and Wurundjeri Way.

The plans include widening and connecting the existing Footscray Road bridge at the Appleton Dock Road intersection, one of the key port access points.

Other works include the installation of reinforcements and pouring the concrete bridge deck, as well as drainage, barriers, and other road infrastructure.

The West Gate Tunnel Project will ultimately result in 9,000 fewer trucks per day on local roads, such as Somerville Road, Yarraville.
