Footscray was one of the worst hit areas as yesterday’s storm swept across Melbourne.

A watch and act alert was issued for Footscray due to the extensive flash flooding across the suburb, and the SES responded to 40 calls for help in the area.

Pictures of a car submerged in water under the Footscray railway bridge were posted online, as well as flooding around the Scienceworks building in Spotswood.

Douglas Parade, to the rear of Scienceworks, has been impacted by flooding, but Scienceworks remains open and accessible by the Booker Street main entrance.

Essendon SES, who covers the Maribyrnong area, responded to 45 calls for help. In 24 hours, 43 millimeters of rain was recorded in the area.

Heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected again in Melbourne this afternoon.
