Footscray motorists travelling into the CBD are reminded of detours in place along Footscray Road as construction of a new elevated roadway for the West Gate Tunnel Project continues.

Closures will be in place in both directions along Footscray Road between Dock Link Road and Appleton Dock Road from 8pm on Friday, 9 September until 5pm on Sunday, 11 September.

Motorists travelling between Footscray and the CBD are encouraged to use detours on Dudley Street, Spencer Street, Dynon Road and Whitehall Street.

Heavy vehicles and port traffic should use Appleton Dock Road, Coode Road and Dock Link Road instead.

Route 220 buses will divert using Dynon Road, missing five stops along Footscray Road in each direction.

Footscray Road eastbound will also be closed from Dock Link Road to Appleton Dock Road nightly between 8pm and 5am on Thursday, September 15 and Friday, September 16.

During weekend and overnight closures in mid-September, crews are installing large steel portals that form the base structure of the roadway.

At most times, traffic is operating under lane closures while two 750-tonne cranes are working on alternating sides of Footscray Road.

The walking and cycling path running along Footscray Road will also need to be closed for short periods.

Similar full road closures will take place in October.
