Leading foster care agency OzChild invites all families, singles, and couples to Yarraville on Saturday, October 21 for its information open day.

OzChild is dedicated to improving the lives of vulnerable children by delivering quality services to families to lives of at-risk children, young people and families in the west.

The open day will provide opportunities for attendees to speak with foster carers to understand the process of becoming a foster carer.

In addition to bringing the community together for learning, children will be able to enjoy the arts and crafts corner, a petting zoo and a sausage sizzle.

OzChild chief executive chief executive Dr Lisa J. Griffiths said the open day will be a wonderful opportunity for people to talk with their staff and meet carers to hear first hand about their experiences and learn what being a foster carer is all about.

“Right now, across western Melbourne there are many children in desperate need of a permanent place to call home,” said Ms Griffiths.

“Way too many kids are growing up away from family, residing in group homes with other children they don’t know, and of varying ages, supervised by youth workers rather than having the attention of parental figures.

“Without the stability of a family home many become disconnected from school and the community leading to a lifetime of disadvantage.

“I encourage anyone wanting to make a difference in your local community to attend our Yarraville open day, with so many kids in need carers are in high demand.”

The event will begin at 10am until 2pm at 6 Campbell Street, Yarraville.
