Free books for little ones in lockdown

A Williamstown North man who writes and illustrates children’s books for charity as a hobby is giving local families free hardbacks during lockdown.

Daniel Corcoran started writing books more than 10 years ago after friends of his tragically lost their baby daughter.

“They started up a foundation and I work as a designer so I said to the father, look, I’ll write a kids’ book and we can sell it and proceeds can go towards The Royal Children’s Hospital,“ he said.

“That experience, for me, was so rewarding I just kept going.

“I just do it as a hobby and I just do it to raise money for charity, so all the proceeds from the books go to Wheelchairs For Kids, which my parents were involved in.

“It’s really under the motto of helping kids to ‘laugh at life often’ because I think life’s just far too serious for kids these days.“

Mr Corcoran said the lockdown must be super tough on the little ones – and parents – so he was offering a free hardback book to local families.

“Lockdown No. 6, there’s a lot of people doing it tough,“ he said.

“I see people I work with who are trying to homeschool and work at the same time, and those that are unemployed are really struggling at the moment and they’re at home with young kids.“

Mr Corcoran is offering contactless delivery during his walks and runs within five kilometres of Williamstown Cemetery.
