Maribyrnong and Hobsons Bay residents are encouraged to learn more about diabetes and cardiovascular disease by taking part in a free on-line session next month as part of the ‘Life!’ program.
Lifestyle Breakthrough dietitian and program facilitator Lydia Di Fiori said prevention was key.
“I have seen great results across the programs I run – from weight loss, reducing waist measurements, through to reductions in blood sugar level and cholesterol levels,” she said.
“All helping to reduce a person’s risk of developing diabetes and cardiovascular disease.”
Ms Di Fiori said she had helped a number of people, including a 48-year-old Altona woman with health issues, who lost five kilograms in eight weeks and has kept the weight off.
“If you are overweight, waist measurements need reducing, through to having high blood sugar readings or high cholesterol, then the Life! program can help,” she said.
Every day, 280 Australians are diagnosed with diabetes.
An estimated two million Australians risk developing type 2 diabetes and every 12 minutes someone dies of cardiovascular disease.
To address this, the state government has funded the Life! program, coordinated by Diabetes Victoria.
To coincide with World Diabetes Day, Ms Di Fiori’s clinic is running a free online information session on Monday, November 14 at 11am.
