Free tourism and hospitality training at VU

By Molly Magennis

Victoria University Polytechnic will be offering free hospitality and tourism courses for workers interested in getting involved in the recovering industries.

Both the hospitality and tourism sectors are continuing to reopen with demand steadily growing, however many businesses are still struggling to find skilled workers to replace those that left during the pandemic.

VU’s new program, The Visitor Economy Work Ready program will provide hands-on practical learning at VU Polytechnic’s training restaurant, VenU at the Footscray Nicholson Campus.

There are three streams available, including Travel and Tourism, Front of House and Back of House, where students can learn a range of skills from customer service, problem solving, food preparation and food and beverage operations.

Upon completion of the program students have guaranteed job interviews at leading employers and partner organisations such as Accor, RACV Resorts and Clubs and at venues like Marvel Stadium and the MCG.

Students will also develop skills in resume writing and interviewing and can access further study at VU Polytechnic and Victoria University if they choose too.

Both domestic and international students are welcome to apply for the program.

Enrolment and Orientation day will be on Thursday April 21 from 10am to 2pm at VenU restaurant.

Those interested should bring a birth certificate and concession card (if applicable)
