A Williamstown man is raising funds to support the people of Afghanistan.
Oliver Tripodi last week started a MyCause fundraising campaign, Olly’s Run for Afghanistan, pledging to run 30 kilometres to raise money for Australia for UNHCR.
The not-for-profit organisation provides humanitarian support to refugees and other displaced and stateless people who are supported by the United Nations Refugee Agency.
Mr Tripodi topped his target of $2000 overnight.
“It’s incredibly distressing to see the Taliban return to power in Afghanistan and, in particular, what that may mean for women and girls,” he said.
“Totalitarianism has no place in the 21st century.
“If sweating my way through a long run can make a difference, I’ll do it.
“I’ve been carbohydrate loading for 29 years, so I’m ready.”
