Further charges against Footscray man

Police have laid further charges against a Footscray man as part of an investigation into allegedly threatening and harassing emails sent to a CFMEU administrator last year.

The 61-year-old man was arrested by Taskforce Hawk detectives on Wednesday and later charged with using a carriage service to harass and commit an indictable offence whilst on bail.

The man has been charged and bailed to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on 3 June.

Investigators will allege the Footscray man sent the harassing message on 25 December to a staff member of the CFMEU administration.

The Footscray man was initially arrested on 12 November and charged with seven counts of using a telecom communications device to menace harass and offend.

He was further charged on 5 December with two counts of using a telecom communications device to offend.

Operation Hawk was established in July 2024 to specifically target criminal behaviour linked to the construction industry and transitioned to Taskforce Hawk in June 2025 following fresh allegations of serious and violent criminal behaviour.

The taskforce is also targeting links between organised crime associated with the construction sector, including a focus on construction workers with known links to outlaw motorcycle gangs.
