An exhibition of works by art and music pioneer Genesis Breyer P-Orridge (pictured) will be displayed in an exclusive Australian exhibition at Newport for the Midsumma Festival.
A planned Australian tour by P-Orridge has been cancelled due to “unexpected complications” related to an ongoing struggle with chronic leukemia.
A pioneer of industrial music, P-Orridge was a founding member of bands such as Throbbing Gristle and Psychic TV.
The exhibition, Loyalty does not end with death, traces the development of the Pandrogeny Project, which involved P-Orridge and late spouse Jacqueline Breyer undergoing cosmetic surgeries and seeking to merge themselves into one being.
Curator Lawrence English said he was sad P-Orridge was unable to come to Australia.
“The work Genesis has undertaken, across music and art … is a critical intergenerational connection between the countercultures of the mid-20th century and emergent projects around identity, transgression and transcendence in music and art today,” he said.
Loyalty does not end with death will open at The Substation on Thursday, February 1.
