Altona is hosting the Australian premiere of the Powerslide game played on a giant inflatable artwork, as part of Harrington Square shopping centre’s March makeover.
The competition takes place on an installation by renowned artist David Cross titled Level Playing Field – a cross between sport and art – from March 28-30.
Anyone over 12 is invited to put together a team of six and take part at scheduled times.
The game involves navigating through an inflatable structure while opponents create hurdles along the way.
The event is part of a Hobsons Bay council initiative to activate Harrington Square with public art and events.
People are being invited to help create a large-scale ground mural on Friday, March 15, from 3-6pm and Saturday, March 16, from 10am-1pm.
Gloves and aprons will be provided but participants need to wear old shoes and clothing. Registration is required via the Creative City Facebook event at facebook.com/creativecityhobsonsbay
Buy something from the square and with a receipt of purchase people can print their own free tote bag on March 15 and 22 from 1-5pm.
Councillor Tony Briffa said the council had worked with Altona Village Traders Association and Harrington Square traders to bring the events to the square.
“In addition to a fresh new look with new seating and planting, the square will come alive with interactive events and activities for different ages and interests,” Cr Briffa said.
