Schoolgirl assaulted in Maribyrnong

Transit Crime Investigation Unit detectives are appealing for public assistance following an assault on a young girl at Maribyrnong on Wednesday.

Investigators have been told a 12-year-old girl was assaulted after she got off the number 82 tram, at the intersection of Edgewater Boulevard and Gordon Street, between 4.30-5pm.

She was followed off the tram and along Edgewater Boulevard by a man who chased after her and grabbed her wrist.

The girl managed to escape the grip of the man and ran home.

It’s believed the man continued to follow her, banging on her front door before leaving the property in the same direction from where he came.

The man is perceived to be of Indian sub-continental appearance, aged between 36 to 42-years-old, 182cm tall with solid build, short spiked black hair in a Mohawk style, a large hooked nose and unshaven.

He was wearing a long sleeved orange hi-visibility top, dark-coloured work pants and work boots.
