Grassfire in Altona North

Peak hour traffic has been affected by a grassfire which has jumped the Princes Freeway at Altona North.

The fire started in the Laverton North Grasslands near Kororoit Creek Road and Burns Road about 2.40pm.

Police have reopened all lanes of the freeway but motorists are advised to monitor conditions.

The general public is being advised to avoid the area.

The MFB has advised that other roads in the area may be affected by smoke.

A community warning has been issued for smoke.

Fifty MFB and CFA firefighters have attended the blaze, which has been deemed suspicious.

People are being advised to monitor warnings via emergency.vic.gov.au.
