Maribyrnong council has granted a permit for a $13 million development in Braybrook.
The land, located on 84-110 Cranwell Street, Braybrook, will be developed for 99 warehouses, four offices and a food and drink premises.
The development will also include a reduction in the car parking requirement for 99 spaces, the installation and display of illuminated business signs, and the removal of native vegetation on the site.
The application had received six objections, including a joint letter from residents.
Angus McQueen addressed the council on behalf of the applicant and said the proposal focused on “high quality”.
“Our strong focus is really on creating places that enhance the local community, the visual landscape and the economy,” Mr McQueen said.
“That is done by an emphasis on really high-quality architecture and landscape, and the intent and the focus is to try and create a thriving business community for local businesses to invest and grow.
“It’s also about creating long-term value through high-quality design, construction and amenity.
“[There is] a real emphasis on landscaping and trying to fit the development with respect for the neighbourhood character.
“The purpose of the project is really to create flexible spaces for small to medium local businesses.
“It’s all about local businesses.”
Aiden Robinson, also speaking on behalf of the applicant, said: The project provides an exciting opportunity to reinvigorate the site [and] wider area through a well-designed commercial development that will increase employment opportunities and upgrade community facilities and interfaces.
“[The development] will complement the existing uses of the surrounding area and will lead to positive social and economic outcomes for the area.”
