Hobsons Bay council is inviting residents to give their feedback on major projects and planning initiatives for Spotswood.
Both the Spotswood Activity Centre Structure Plan and the Better Places Spotswood and South Kingsville Place Guide are currently out for public consultation.
The Structure Plan was developed following extensive community consultation as part of Better Places Spotswood and South Kingsville.
It will be used to guide future land use and public space and infrastructure around the Spotswood activity centre to help bring about the Better Places community vision.
The draft Structure Plan also aims to improve access to open space areas via improved pedestrian and cycle paths, increased open space within redevelopment sites and improved access to community facilities.
Council is also seeking feedback on Better Places projects such as early concepts on the Greenline, which includes exploring separated bike lanes and improved streetscape along Hall, McLister and Birmingham Streets.
Hobsons Bay mayor Peter Hemphill said that the draft Structure Plan reflected the suburb’s transition from a mostly industrial area to a vibrant village.
“The population of Spotswood/South Kingsville is expected to double from 2016 to 2036, bringing significant opportunity for urban renewal and changing industry,” he said.
“The Structure Plan implements the community vision developed through the Better Places Spotswood and South Kingsville consultation and facilitates the growth of Spotswood’s activity centre while protecting Spotswood’s heritage and character.”
Locals are invited to find out more about the projects at online drop-in sessions on Wednesday May 11 from 7pm to 8pm and Saturday May 14 from 10am to 11am.
Locas and visitors are invited to provide feedback on the draft Structure Plan and relevant Place Guide projects until June 2.
