Laverton Community Children’s Centre welcomed more greenery into their garden recently.

Children and staff helped Hobsons Bay council staff members plant indigenous trees and plants and install tree guards and mulch to increase Hobsons Bay’s overall canopy cover on Monday, August 15.

As part of Hobsons Bay council’s Green Schools program, the council has planned to provide up to 50 indigenous trees and plants to four Hobsons Bay schools this year.

Hobsons Bay has one of the lowest amounts of tree canopy cover or natural shade in greater Melbourne and the council’s Urban Forest Strategy has aimed to increase the city’s cover to 30 per cent by 2040.
