With the mercury topping 40 degrees on Friday 9 January as part of the strongest heatwave to hit Melbourne in years, Hobsons Bay’s beaches proved a popular place for people wanting to escape the heat. Even early on Friday morning, hours before the top temperature of 43 degrees was reached, Williamstown Beach was already busy as parents gave their children a chance to splash around in the shallows and cool off. Star Weekly photographer Ljubica Vrankovic braved the oppressive heat and scorching sand to capture images of beachgoers having fun in the very hot sun.
