Community groups will be the beneficiaries of $35,000 raised at the third Hobsons Bay Community Fund golf day at Altona.

In the past 11 years, the fund has awarded cash grants totalling $222,586 to 88 community organisations.

Fund chairman Hayden Raysmith said the highlights of last month’s event included two women’s teams led by high-profile community leaders.

“Thanks to the generosity of Kooringal Golf Club and our major sponsors, Budget Car and Truck Rental, CPB John Holland, Victoria University and Urban Maintenance Systems, the Hobsons Bay Community Fund raised $35,000,” he said.

“A highlight of this year’s event was the entry of two women’s teams – one organised by councillor Sandra Wilson and the other by Terry Bracks, AM.

“Victoria University brought out the big guns with chancellor George Pappas, AO, and vice-chancellor Peter Dawkins, AO, both teeing off on what proved to be a perfect golfing day.

“Competition was keen … with the narrowest of margins between the top teams, the ultimate winners were a team led by Steve Bracks, AC, including David Huggins, Kelvyn Lavelle and David Parsons.”

Grant applications are now open for community organisations. Details: hbcommunityfund.org.au
