By Councillor Pamela Sutton-Legaud
Volunteers are the lifeblood of a community.
I’ve been fortunate throughout my professional and personal life to work with and alongside some incredible volunteers that have made enormous contributions to the people and world around them.
I’m sure you’ve come across plenty of them too. Whether it’s helping out at your local club or
community group, they are the people that keep the place running and they are absolutely vital to our community.
Attracting new volunteers can also be a difficult task. That’s why I’m so excited about the upcoming Volunteer Expo. I think this is a great way for all our community groups, clubs and organisations to bring new members into their fold and to show off what it is they do and bring to our community. But it’s also a fantastic chance for people who might be looking for a way to get more involved in their community to find out about the opportunities. Volunteering is such a rewarding activity. There are so many great people in our community who have
skills and expertise that would be of incredible value to a community organisation. It’s also great for you physically and socially.
The Hobsons Bay Volunteer Expo will be on at the Hobsons Bay Civic Centre on Saturday, May 20, between 11am-2pm.
Finally, I want to mention that there is still time for you to have your say on Council’s proposed budget for 2023-24. This is a great chance to get involved in the process and have your voice heard about how your rates money should be spent.
Go to participate.hobsonsbay.vic.gov.au/budget2023-24 to view the budget and share your thoughts by Sunday, May 14.
