Houli named as holy grail ambassador

Altona’s own Bachar Houli has been named as this year’s Premiership’s Cup Ambassador in the 2022 Toyota AFL Finals Series.

Hosted at Altona’s Toyota Centre of Excellence facilities, the AFL launched the run-up to the final on Monday, August 29.

The three-time premiership player for Richmond and Essendon would deliver the prized trophy to the Melbourne Cricket Ground [MCG] before the grand final on Saturday, September 24.

Houli is the founder of the Bachar Houli Foundation, a non-for-profit organisation established in 2013 that aims to develop young leaders within the Muslim community through football development, employment, leadership and identity.

His esteemed fifteen-year career has seen him win three premierships with the Richmond Football Club, the McClelland Trophy in 2018, All-Australian in 2019, and the Jim Stynes Community Leadership Award in 2020.

AFL chief executive Gillon McLachlan said anticipation for the next month of finals and for the grand final was at “fever pitch”.

“Big match-ups, big crowds and four weeks of captivating footy to look forward to,” he said.

“Eight clubs and one ending, a month of finals footy that will come to a thrilling end on the last Saturday in September in front of 100,000 fans at the MCG.”
