Suspected human remains have been found by railway workers under a bridge in Altona North.
Police confirmed workers made the grisly discovery about midday on Monday.
The remains were found in a creek under the bridge and were in a bag, Nine News reports.
“The remains are currently being forensically examined,” a police spokesman said.
Homicide detectives were at the scene throughout the afternoon, with other officers doing searches in the area.
It’s not yet known how long the remains have been there.
