Hundreds pay respects at local Anzac services

Hundreds paid their respects to Australia’s service personnel past and present by turning out for Anzac Day marches and services across Hobsons Bay and Maribyrnong.

Williamstown and Altona RSL held marches on Sunday and dawn services on Anzac Day followed by a traditional gunfire breakfast and a game of two-up.

It is the only day of the year when the game, popualar among Australian soldiers in WW1, is legally allowed.

Spotswood-Kingsville RSL this year joined Newport RSL for a march from the club to the Mason Street cenotaph.

An Anzac Day march and service was held at Footscray RSL from 11am on Sunday.

The march took participants down Geelong Road to the war memorial in Footscray Park, before returning to the RSL for a noon service.
