Hunt for dog after two pets attacked in Williamstown

Authorities are searching for a large dog believed to have attacked two other dogs in Williamstown on Monday.

Hobsons Bay council was notified by a local vet about 4.30pm of two dog attacks.

The similar reports related to an off-lead large black and tan dog, possibly a rottweiler breed, attacking two other dogs.

Both dogs needed veterinary treatment with one requiring surgery.

Council officers and police attended the scene to try to find the animal reported to be in the Williamstown area of Cecil and Ann streets.

However, a search of the area failed to find a dog fitting the description.

Council officers notified nearby residents and dog walkers to warn them of the possible danger.

By Tuesday morning, the dog had not been found.

Anyone who sees a dog at large fitting the description or who has information that could lead to the dog’s whereabouts should call the council on 9932 1000.

People are being warned not to try to catch the dog or approach it.

If there is is immediate danger, people should call triple-0.
