Our littlest future lifesavers are being invited to Williamstown beach this month.

Williamstown Swimming and Life Saving Club is hosting a try-out day for its summer Nippers program at the end of October.

Junior activities director Christine Polgar said it was a great way for children aged five to 12 to make friends and enjoy the beach in an inclusive and safe environment.

She said the National Surf Life Saving Australia program was tailored to children’s ages and abilities, and taught basic lifesaving skills to be safe around water and compete in surf sports.

“Everyone is invited to come to the beach to get a taste of the beach fun and education that will happen every Sunday morning as part of the Nippers program at Williamstown,” Ms Polgar said.

“Last year, Williamstown had almost 300 Nippers.

“We offer additional training sessions for those aged eight and above who wish to compete in inter-club carnivals.”

The try-out day is on Sunday, October 28 from 9.30am at Williamstown beach.

Volunteers, including parents, are also being sought to help deliver the program.
