Industrial land review open

Hobsons Bay council invites locals to have their say on industrial land.

Community consultation sessions on Hobsons Bay’s industrial land are beginning on Wednesday, May 31.

Council said it needs a clear policy to guide how industrial precincts are used and developed.

The ‘Draft Industrial Land Management Strategy’ updates the current 2008 strategy, and provides direction about land use and policies relating to Hobsons Bay’s industrial precincts for the next 15 years.

The strategy, developed after extensive consultation with key stakeholders, sets out a vision and objectives for each of the city’s key industrial precincts.

It will also guide a new planning framework for industrial land, which will be implemented via a future planning scheme amendment.

Council has also prepared ‘Draft Industrial Design Guidelines’, which outline preferred site layout and urban design outcomes for developments in industrial areas.

Both documents are available for the community to review and provide feedback until Sunday, July 2.

In-person consultation sessions will be held for anyone wanting to discuss the documents with council officers.

In Altona there will be two sessions, on Wednesday, May 31, from 5pm-7pm, and on Saturday, June 3, from 10am-2pm, at the Hobsons Bay Civic Centre, 115 Civic Parade in Altona.

As well as one on Wednesday, June 7, from 11am-2pm, at Zan Zanz Cafe, 2/110 Maddox Road in Williamstown.

Mayor Tony Briffa said the industrial land continues to make up an important part of the community.

“The 2008 Industrial Land Management Strategy helped inform our work to create new opportunities for the local community,” she said.

“We invite our community and key stakeholders to review these important documents and help shape what they look like. They will inform the decisions we make about industrial land for the next 15 years, so it’s important we get as many viewpoints as possible so the strategy and guidelines are as strong as they can be.”
