Three young people will be offered internships at Altona’s Louis Joel Arts and Community Centre under a pilot project.

The internships are for people aged 18 to 25 seeking a career in the creative industries and/or the community development sector.

They were made possible by a Hobsons Bay Community Fund COVID-19 recovery impact grant, and a Hobsons Bay council contribution.

Project co-ordinator Danielle Whelan said each intern would be supported with a budget to develop and deliver a project, to gain the skills and experience they needed to find work.

“I think particularly the arts have been quite impacted in terms of the pandemic,” she said.

“Louis Joel is quite set up with the recourses to really support a project that someone comes up with – it’s the right place to be doing this.”

The interns will join Louis Joel over the coming year.
