Police arrested three males following a collision in Spotswood which closed four lanes of the West Gate Bridge on Tuesday, July 5.

Leading Senior Constable Melissa Seach said police have alleged that a silver Ford Falcon XR6 sedan was travelling outbound along the West Gate Freeway near Williamstown Road in Spotswood and collided with a truck at about 10.35am.

“Three other males aged in their 20s who were in the car were arrested at the scene after the vehicle was suspected of being stolen as it was displaying false registration plates,” she said.

“They have since been released pending further inquiries.”

Leading Senior Constable Seach said a 21-year-old Wyndham Vale man was the driver of the sedan and was taken to hospital, where he remains in a stable condition.

“A male passenger of the car was taken to hospital with critical injuries,” she said.

“The two male occupants of the truck were not injured and were assessed by paramedics at the scene.”

Leading Senior Constable Seach said investigations were continuing into the cause of the collision.

“The exact circumstances surrounding the collision are yet to be determined and the investigation remains ongoing,” she said.

“Investigators are keen to speak to any witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage that may have been in the area at the time of the collision.”
