So you think you can dance?

Whether you know your way around the dance floor, or think you have two left feet, celebrity dancer Jarryd Byrne (pictured) thinks anyone can enjoy dancing.

The Altona North man – who has been dancing since walking into his first dance class in Wagga Wagga when he was eight – is trained in Latin American, ballroom, salsa and hip hop, and has competed nationally and internationally.

This has led to roles on So You Think You Can Dance, Burn the Floor, and three seasons on Dancing with the Stars, where he was paired with Jesinta Franklin, Ricki-Lee Coulter and Ash Pollard.

Most recently, Byrne spent two years touring Australia playing Nathan Starkey in Baz Luhrmann’s Strictly Ballroom the Musical.

He has since settled in the west and brought his dance and fitness company, Fit2Move, to the area, running two days of classes per week at the Iramoo Community Centre in Wyndham Vale.

“I was always average at everything, but dancing for some reason just clicked,” he said.

“My whole life was about competing for Australia and trying to become Australian champion in Latin and ballroom, so I never really set out to be on TV or stage.”
