Junior Landcare holiday fun

With National Biodiversity Month around the corner, Junior Landcare has announced a new Find-a-Word activity sheet for some school holiday fun.

The latest activity would focus on themes expressing the importance of looking after the natural ecosystem.

The learning centre would include a plethora of other educational activities to teach children about the environment and what they can do to protect it.

Landcare Australia chief executive Shane Norrish said the activity sheet would build on existing activities to help children build knowledge and connections to their local environment.

“For children to want to protect the environment, they must first be able to appreciate and understand it,” he said.

Other activities in the Junior Landcare Learning Centre would focus on themes such as food production, biodiversity, waste management and First Nations perspectives and could be used at home and in the classroom.

Earlier this year, the learning centre added ten First Nations-based activities developed in collaboration with First Nations educator and Wiradjuri man Adam Shipp.

The activities included discovering First Nations weather, creating an Indigenous plant use garden and exploring a First Nations people’s languages map.
