Katie Hall retains Footscray despite Greens swing

An increase of support for Greens candidates across inner-city seats such as Richmond and Pascoe Vale stretched out to Footscray, with Labor MP Katie Hall predicted to retain the seat despite a 14.2 per cent swing to the Greens.

Ms Hall secured 53.97 per cent of the two-candidate preferred vote with 15,866 votes, while Greens candidate for Footscray Elena Pereyra obtained 13,531 two-candidate preferred votes (46.03 per cent).

Ms Hall received 14,064 first preference votes (44.23 per cent), while Ms Pereyra secured 7058 first preference votes (22.20 per cent), Liberal candidate for Footscray Emete Joesika received 5453 first preference votes (17.15 per cent) and Victorian Socialists candidate Jorge Jorquera obtained 3160 first preference votes (9.94 per cent).

Labor’s predicted victory in Footscray was part of a broader Labor victory, with Labor winning 48 seats based on the two-candidate preferred count at the time of publication.
