Coaches trained by English soccer giant Arsenal visited Altona City last week to help develop young players’ technical skills and passion for the game.

Altona City players aged from seven to 11 went through a five-day school holiday training program.

Altona City president Joe Tanti said Arsenal, nicknamed the Gunners, approached his club and the two were now aligned.

“They approached our director of coaching, Rocco Giovanniello, to see if they could come and coach the kids,” he said.

“The coaching was very different to what we’re used to. The kids really enjoyed it. They stayed focused and took in what the coaches had to offer.

“We’re now aligned with the Arsenal Soccer Schools so everything we do will involve them as well.”

From July 20, Arsenal Soccer Schools Victoria will hold a weekly program at Altona City on Monday nights.

Altona City formed in 1965 and has produced many notable players, including Socceroos great Alan Davidson.

The club is holding its 50th anniversary ball on August 8 from 7pm to midnight at WestWaters Ballroom, 10-20 Lake Street, Caroline Springs. Cost is $75 per person.
