A lawyer has been arrested in connection with the 2009 murder of Mohammed Haddara.
Homicide Squad detectives arrested the 67-year-old at a Fairfield home about 7am on Friday.
He is currently assisting police with enquiries, police said.
Mr Haddara, a member of the western suburbs Haddara crime family, was fatally shot in front of his parents’ home in Altona North on June 20, 2009.
Ahmed Hablas was acquitted in 2011 of the murder.
Mr Haddara’s death led to a violent feud with the rival Chaouk family.
Within months, an associate’s car was peppered with machine-gun fire outside an Altona North McDonald’s restaurant.
Then, in August 2010, Chaouk patriarch Machhour Chaouk was shot dead in the backyard of his Brooklyn home.
More to come.
