LeadWest advocacy continues

Mayor Sarah Carter and Deputy Mayor Cuc Lam represented the city of Maribyrnong at a LeadWest advocacy event held at Parliament House.

They joined the other members of LeadWest advisory committee consisting of the cities of Brimbank, Hobsons Bay, Melton, and Wyndham for discussions with MP Melissa Horne and other MP’s from the west.

Discussions were centred around the redevelopment of Footscray Library to be made into a new creative space and community hub to address the inequity of access to arts and cultural facilities.

Council is seeking state government investment to support the progression of the project.

Among other topics addressed were issues especially important to the Maribyrnong community, including the need for improvements in active and public transportation.

As well as the establishment of a regional mental health program, following the council meeting that acknowledged the city’s existing and growing mental health problem.

LeadWest is an advocacy alliance comprising the western metropolitan municipalities of Brimbank, Hobsons Bay, Maribyrnong, Melton and Wyndham.

It represents the shared interests of its members to strengthen the western local economies.

It works to support sustainable population growth, improve transport connectivity and scale up community services to meet the current and future needs of the growing population.
