Maribyrnong council has organised it’s Connect and Communicate program to come back for another year.

The tech based program is designed for seniors designed to help develop skills in a range of topics including socialising, accessing important services, and staying safe online.

According to council it will help seniors keep in touch with family and friends, access government sites, access health and other essential services, learn about how to buy online safely and help meet new people.

During the 9-week course, iPads will be provided to use during classes.

The range of topics being taught in classes include an introduction to iPads, using email, browsing and searching online, messaging and taking photos, video calling, social media, online shopping and online safety, travel and events and online forms.

The group classes run weekly at Braybrook, Footscray, Maribyrnong and Yarraville library branches.

Participants can book in for the whole course, or the topics that interest them most.

Council said the Footscray Library group class is close to booking out, but there is still space available at the other sessions.

There are up to 10 people per class and additional one-on-one sessions are also available at Footscray Library.

The program is as follows, Braybrook Library at 1-3pm on Tuesdays until September 5, Footscray Library at 10am-12pm on Mondays until September 4 , Maribyrnong Library at 10am-12pm on Thursdays until September 7, and Yarraville Library at 1-3pm on Fridays until September 8.

These programs are presented with Lively, a not-for-profit organisation that brings young and older people together to share skills and learn from each other.

The young Lively helpers provide technology help in a friendly and relaxed environment.
