One of Footscray’s most cherished restaurants is launching a photo competition to help it stay afloat.

Star Weekly earlier this year reported “pay as you can” restaurant Lentil as Anything was facing troubled times and needed a boost in support to keep its doors open.

The not-for-profit restaurant is hoping to raise $500 through a photo competition, with entries to be collected in a photo book.

Restaurant floor manager Laura Khanna said competition entrants need only take a photo portrait of someone at Lentil As Anything Footscray, be they customer, volunteer or chef.

Entrants must then find out their subjects’ stories and what Lentil as Anything means to them, print the photos and hand them in with a paragraph or two about the subjects.

“Photography is a great platform – anybody with a phone can do this,” Ms Khanna said.

All entries will be part of an exhibition at Footscray Lentil As Anything and made into a book, with the winner featuring on the front cover.

“It’s a way to build the community as well and get everyone to know each other a little better,” Ms Khanna said.

As well as submitting entries, people are being encouraged to support a crowdfunding campaign in which all donors of $50 or more will receive a copy of the Snapshots of the West book.
