The Liberal-National Coalition has announced two non-government schools would receive more than $3.4 million towards proposed refurbishment and upgrade projects, if the Coalition wins the upcoming state election.

The Coalition has pledged $2 million towards upgrades at St Mary’s Primary School in Altona, which would include demolition and reconstruction of existing classrooms and the construction of stage 1A of a master plan consisting of rebuilding six general learning areas.

The Liberal-National Coalition also promised a $1.445 million commitment towards a number of upgrades, including refurbishment of the roof and guttering on a number of school buildings and covered walkways between buildings, refurbishment of the staff room, staff toilets and student toilets and upgrades to the security system and fire alarms.

Liberal candidate for Williamstown Daria Kellander said the funding acknowledged the importance of non-government schools in the state’s education system.

“Non-government schools are a rapidly growing sector that deliver considerable benefits to local communities and deserve to be supported,” she said.

“This important commitment will mean better facilities for hundreds of thousands of students and provide much-needed certainty for school communities across Victoria.”
