Local inspiration for Book

Altona’s Cara King has illustrated a book encouraging children to step outside their comfort zones, drawing inspiration from her local library.

Scaredy Book: It’s not always easy to be brave, written by Canberra-based Devon Sillett, is based on a character
named Book.

“Book lives in a library, and I created a lot of the illustrations in and based on the Altona library,” King said.

“It’s about a book that resides in a library … it’s comfortable there and it’s too scared to go out of the library.

“Then Emma comes along and she loves books and so she encourages Book to come with her out on new adventures.

“It’s all about helping kids to learn to step outside that comfort zone and be brave and try new adventures.”
