A local Altona Meadows photographer has had one of her photos selected to be part of an international virtual exhibition showcasing images taken during the past year of the pandemic.

Christina Hardcastle’s photograph Just Another Day, was selected to be included in an exhibit of 39 photographs from around the world, hosted by Documentary Family Photographers Worldwide (DFP).

As a member of the DFP, Hardcastle submitted three of her own photos for the exhibition and was chuffed when one of hers got chosen.

“They had three jurors to pick all the photographs and they’re like leading photographers in our industry. It’s pretty amazing to be selected by these amazing, amazing photographers,” Hardcastle said.

The candid image depicting her husband and daughter was taken completely organically during the last lockdown, she said.

“It totally just happened. I actually took that on my iPhone. It was just like, I was walking by and just [thought] ‘oh my gosh I have to get this’,” she said.

“My husband actually had no idea that I took that photo, he was actually dozing off.”

Hardcastle said she loves capturing real and honest moments that depict family life.

“You can look back on the photos and see, that’s the funny thing that my kid did back then….I can feel how it felt.”

The exhibit will be available for viewing online until March 6, 2022.
